'Jacks Drown the Gators in 48 Point Blowout

ARCATA, Calif. -- From start to finish, the Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball team dominated San Francisco State in Thursday night's CCAA matchup inside of Lumberjack Arena. The 'Jacks pulled away early and didn't look back, earning a 85-37 victory to snap San Francisco State's four game win streak and return to winning ways themselves. The team currently holds a 10-9 overall record and 8-5 CCAA record, slotting them at third place in the standings. Ian Krishnan put on a stellar shooting performance, dropping a season-high 25 points in the contest. Josh Berenbaum recorded his first double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

"We wanted to emphasize getting back to being fundamentally sound defensively and limit SF State to what they do really well," stated Tae Norwood. "We were shot makers tonight and that's something we should do well when we play at home. Credit to our guys for not putting their heads down after a tough road trip and coming back home and being resilient. I'm proud of this team and their effort."

The Humboldt defense held the Gators to just 28 percent shooting from the field and 20 percent from beyond the arc. On the flip side, the 'Jacks shot 56 percent for the game and 45.7 percent from three-point range.

"Our defense got our offense going. We created turnovers and made stops that gave us opportunities to get in transition," said Norwood.

With only eight players suiting up for tonight's game and the lineup missing some familiar faces due to injury management, a lot of members on the team stepped up and got an opportunity to earn minutes on the court.

"Everyone on this team can go," said fifth year guard Amari Green. "We all believe in each other and we understand that all the work we put in leads to confidence in ourselves. Even if we have some guys down, we know that whoever touches the court can make something happen and we proved that tonight."

Amari Green managed the offense tonight from the point guard position and added 12 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists, and three steals.

GAME SUMMARY
Green got the game started with a three-pointer to give the 'Jacks a lead that would last for the entirety of the game. A Berenbaum dunk at the 19:02 mark ignited a 19-4 run that lasted for nearly 11 minutes and gave Humboldt a commanding 22-6 lead early. With five minutes left to go in the first half, the 'Jacks outscored the Gators 9-2 and went into halftime with a 38-16 lead. Berenbaum scored the final eight points for Humboldt before heading into the locker rooms at the half.

The second half had Ian Krishnan's name written all over it, as he dropped 16 points that fueled the offensive showcase for Humboldt. Kareem Clark, Thomas Nelson, and Shemar O'Roy-Ford joined in on the action, as they all had season-high's in minutes played and combined for a total of 12 points on 42 percent shooting. The 'Jacks took away any chance of hope that San Francisco State had by going on a 9-0 run to open the second half and 14-4 run to finish the game.

Cal Poly Humboldt (10-9, 8-5 CCAA) now sit in third place and San Francisco State (9-10, 5-8 CCAA) currently reside in ninth place.
