ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks closed out their first road trip of the season against Sonoma State at the Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park on Saturday afternoon. In a game with 12 lead changes, the close game slipped away late from Humboldt as they couldn't get into a rhythm down the stretch and fell short to the Seawolves with a final score of 68-50.
Jordahn Johnson posted eight points and eight rebounds, while
Sage Wayans added nine points of his own.Ā
A pair of three-pointers to start the game from
Brandon Bento-Jackson and
Emanuel Steward gave the Jacks their first lead of the game, 6-5. Down 13-9, Humboldt went on a 10-4 run to regain a 19-17 lead over Sonoma State.
Chase Hettinger led the charge as he scored seven consecutive points. In this back and forth battle,
Ramiah Adedigba'sĀ layup on a fastbreak put Humboldt up 21-20 with eight minutes left to play before the half. Down 28-22,
Jordahn Johnson capped off his own 6-0 run with an emphatic slam that was assisted by
Rob Diaz III to tie the game at 28. The SeawolvesĀ closed out the final minute of the half with four points and held a 32-28 advantage over the Jacks.Ā
To start the second half, Humboldt converted their first five field goal attempts and took a 38-36 lead at the 16:08 mark. The Jacks went scoreless for over four minutes and the Seawolves took advantage as they jumped out in front by 10 points, 48-38. Although Humboldt cut the Sonoma lead to seven points (55-48) with 5:27 to go, they struggled down the stretch and only scored a pair of free-throws the rest of the game. After starting the second half 5-for-5, the Jacks finished the game 3-for-14 from the field. As the game came to a close, Sonoma finished on top with a final score of 68-50.Ā
