Cal Poly Humboldt Battles to Draw in Tale of Two Halves at CSUSB, Postseason Berth to Be Decided in Final Match

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — In a match defined by a tale of two halves, Cal Poly Humboldt (7-7-3, 4-4-2 CCAA) saw an early two-goal advantage dissolve, finishing with a 2-2 draw against Cal State San Bernardino (5-5-6, 4-3-3 CCAA) on Sunday afternoon at Premier Field. With postseason hopes on the line, Humboldt's fate will come down to the final game of the season next Thursday.

The 'Jacks got off to a lightning-fast start with sophomore Emilie Wallin netting her second goal of the season in the third minute. Wallin received a perfectly placed pass from teammates Mari Ige and Heidie Munoz, slotting the ball past the Coyotes' goalkeeper to give Humboldt an early edge. Humboldt struck again in the 23rd minute when senior Abby Borg scored her first goal of the season, propelling the Jacks to a 2-0 lead that held through halftime.

However, the second half saw the Coyotes rally. Alissa Torres cut Humboldt's lead in half in the 52nd minute, converting on a cross from Sakiah Williams. CSUSB's momentum continued as Emilee Perez found the equalizer in the 68th minute, assisted by Alyssa Vernon. The Jacks and Coyotes each pushed for a game-winning goal in the final 20 minutes, but neither side managed to break the deadlock.

Humboldt outshot CSUSB 17-14, with both teams recording seven shots on goal. Goalkeepers on both sides played key roles in maintaining the tie, each making five saves throughout the match. Ige received the game's lone caution in the 75th minute.

With this result, the Jacks' postseason berth in the CCAA Tournament hinges on their regular-season finale at home next Thursday.
