Humboldt Clinches Postseason Berth for Third Straight Season with Victory Over Sonoma State, Earn Fifth Seed

No. 5 Humboldt will Travel to Turlock and play No. 4 Stanislaus State this Sunday in Quarterfinal Match

ARCATA, Calif. – With a decisive 2-0 win over Sonoma State on Thursday, Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer clinched a postseason berth for the third consecutive season. Humboldt's early offensive surge, led by goals from Frida Duran Arellano and Heidie Munoz, secured their place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Soccer Tournament as the No. 5 seed.

"I'm so proud of the team today," said head coach Grant Landy. "They wanted it from the opening whistle. Getting early goals really set the tone for the match. We dropped our first two conference games this year, so to battle back to make the conference tournament is a testament to the team's resolve and mentality."

Cal Poly Humboldt (8-7-3, 5-4-2 CCAA) will travel to Turlock to face No. 4 seed Stanislaus State in the tournament quarterfinals, set for this Sunday. The Lumberjacks' victory capped off their regular season with strong momentum, showcasing a solid defensive effort and precision in front of the goal.

In the 12th minute, Frida Duran Arellano headed the ball to the back of the net with an assist from Camryn Patten, marking Duran Arellano's seventh goal of the season, the fourth most across the CCAA. Just three minutes later, Heidie Munoz extended the lead with her third goal, supported by a well-executed pass sequence from Patten and Megan Janikowski.

Goalkeeper Carson Thomson-Terrel tallied eight saves, effectively shutting down Sonoma State's 18-shot effort. The Seawolves (5-9-4, 3-7-1 CCAA) struggled to penetrate the Lumberjacks' defense, despite putting eight shots on goal.

With this win, the Lumberjacks are set to continue their season in the postseason and will aim to advance past the first round in Turlock and return home for the semifinal match against No. 1 seed Cal Poly Pomona.
