Humboldt Track & Field Opens Indoor Season with Strong Performances at Nevada Silver State Invitational and Multis

RENO, Nev. – Cal Poly Humboldt Track & Field kicked off its indoor season in impressive fashion at the Nevada Silver State Invitational and Multis, held December 5-7 at the Reno Sparks Convention Center. The Lumberjacks tallied a number of personal bests, a national provisional qualifying mark, and standout performances across the three-day event hosted by the University of Nevada, Reno.

Thursday and Friday Highlights: Heptathlon Success

Bryce Pearson led the charge with a stellar performance in the heptathlon, achieving a national provisional qualifying mark. Over the two days of competition, Pearson posted personal bests in the long jump, high jump, pole vault, and shot put, setting the tone for the team.

Friday's Personal Best Performances

Saturday Highlights: Record-Setting Day

The final day of competition was marked by standout individual efforts:

  • Joseph Gonzalez dominated the men's shot put with a personal best of over one meter, taking first place

  • Derek Ray followed with a second-place finish in the shot put, exceeding 15 meters

  • Ginny Brooks tied her personal record in the 60m hurdles

  • Chris Roberds added two more PRs, improving by 0.01 seconds in the 60m hurdles and 0.17 seconds in the 60m

  • Isaak Kasso advanced to the 60m hurdles finals with a PR and finished fifth. He also achieved a personal best in the high jump

  • Paul Domingue and Ryan Castro both broke the 7-second barrier in the 60m, with Domingue qualifying for finals, finishing in seventh place

  • Ryan Giglio placed fourth in the 600m with a strong showing

  • Jevon Cloy and Adam Gomez capped the day with PRs in the 60m hurdles and weight throw, respectively

Looking Ahead

The Lumberjacks' performances at the Nevada Silver State Invitational and Multis showcased their offseason training and set the stage for a promising indoor season. The team will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next competition that isn't until February 1 at the Inland Northwest Invitational in Spokane, Washington at The Podium.
