SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt closed the 2026 CCAA Track & Field Championships with a historic third-place team finish, the highest for the Lumberjack men in the program's CCAA era (since 2007).
Humboldt was led by Michael Payan, who claimed the CCAA title in the pole vault for the second year in a row with a winning clearance of 5.20m. Payan was also named the CCAA Men's Field Athlete of the Meet. Teammate Adam Garrison earned bronze in the pole vault at 4.81m, while Justin Vigna tied for eighth at 4.21m.
The Lumberjacks added another conference champion in the shot put, where Joseph Gonzalez won the CCAA title with a throw of 16.76m. Derek Ray also scored in the event, placing sixth at 14.92m.
Humboldt produced two more podium finishes in the high jump. Alexander Dillon earned silver with a clearance of 2.00m, while Gabriel Bondurant took bronze, also clearing 2.00m for a new personal best.
On the track, Humboldt's 4x100 relay team of Alonzo Paul, Tosh Woods, Adam Smith, and Cameron Bishop placed fourth in 41.24, while the 4x400 relay team of Zach Blood, Bishop, Jamie Saunders, and Joey Bowser also finished fourth in 3:14.83.
Additional scoring performances came from Ryan Giglio in the 800 meters, placing sixth in 1:55.31; Bennett Feldenkirchen in the 400 hurdles, placing fifth in 55.02; Walker Dorris, who took seventh in the 110 hurdles in 15.21 and eighth in the 400 hurdles; Jamie Saunders, eighth in the 400 meters in 48.49; and Alonzo Paul, eighth in the 200 meters in 21.69.
In the javelin, Damian Greenwood placed eighth with a throw of 48.43m, followed by Collin Friedman in 10th at 46.83m and Ruari Mulrey in 15th at 44.75m.
Humboldt finished third overall with 106.5 points.
