POMONA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt finished their SoCal road trip on Saturday evening from Kellogg Arena in Pomona. Taking on the Broncos for the second time this season, the 'Jacks aimed to even the series after falling to Pomona in their first meeting earlier this season. Despite leading for a majority of the game once again, the final minutes saw Cal Poly Pomona overtake the Lumberjacks and hold on for the 61-55 win.
Brandon Bento-Jackson's shooting stood out for Humboldt, as he collected 12 points on 50 percent shooting from deep.
A slow start for the Broncos was credited to the Humboldt defense, as the 'Jacks held Pomona to just 21 first half points. At the break, Humboldt led 25-21. The Broncos turned the heat up in the second half as they came out from the locker rooms and shot 52 percent from the field and 63 percent from three-point range. The Lumberjacks maintained the lead for most of the second half, but the scoreboard went back and forth being a one possession game with just under five minutes to go.
Brandon Bento-Jackson hit a three to make it 54-51 Pomona at the 2:10 mark, but Humboldt was forced to foul as time winded down. The Broncos second half comeback sealed a 61-55 win on their home floor.
