EMPORIA, Kan. -- Aris Houston of Cal Poly Humboldt men's track & field finished his season Friday evening after running a time of 1:52.17 in the 800m preliminary race at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Kansas. He placed 16th in the nation.
Recording NCAA Second-Team All-American honors last outdoor season in the 800, Houston went into Kansas ranked 18th overall in the 800 with a time of 1:49.87. He was one of 19 runners in the event. Despite finishing 16th on Friday, the difference in the field from sixth place (1:51.84) to sixteenth place where Houston finished was 0.33 seconds, proving to be a tough and extremely competitive field for this event.
Houston was a national qualifier for the second consecutive season in the 800m and is the only member of the men's track & field team to nationally qualify for the past two outdoor seasons. He was also named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-West Region for the 800m.
