Men's Track & Field Sign 14 Athletes for 2024-25 season

ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt signed an impressive Men's Track & Field recruiting class for 2024-25, including 14 student-athletes in the sprints, hurdles, multis, jumps, and throws. Men's Cross Country brings in 16 additional runners, adding depth to the 2024-25 men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams. Head Coach Sarah Ingram praises assistant coaches Teigan Eilers and Jamey Harris for outstanding success recruiting a talented and deep group of young men, noting the 2024-25 indoor and outdoor seasons are poised to be the strongest men's track campaigns in Humboldt's recent history. 
 

Dylan Ochoa
Cal Poly Humboldt is thrilled to announce the signing of standout athlete Dylan Ochoa from Northview High School in Covina, California, to the Lumberjacks' Track and Field team.

Dylan Ochoa, a gifted sprinter in the 200m and 400m events, has achieved remarkable success in his high school career. Ochoa boast impressive personal best of 21.42 seconds in the 200m and 47.01 seconds in the 400m. His dedication and talent culminated in a CIF Southern Section Championship victory in the 400m and a second-place finish in the 200m, followed by a stellar performance at the California State Championship, where he secured second place in the 400m.

Head Coach Sarah Ingram expressed excitement about Ochoa joining the team, stating, "Dylan is an exceptional athlete whose speed and work ethic will be a tremendous asset to our program. His achievements at the high school level demonstrate his potential to excel in collegiate competition, and we are eager to support his growth and development as both an athlete and a student."

In addition to his athletic prowess, Dylan is an outstanding student, demonstrating excellence in the classroom. He plans to pursue a degree in Business at Cal Poly Humboldt, where he will undoubtedly bring the same level of commitment and excellence to his academic pursuits as he has to his athletic endeavors. 

Cal Poly Humboldt is proud to welcome Dylan Ochoa to the Lumberjack family and looks forward to his contributions to the Track and Field team and the broader campus community.

Michael Payan
Cal Poly Humboldt is excited to announce the addition of talented pole vaulter Michael Payan from Whitney High School in Rocklin, California, to the Lumberjacks' Track and Field team.

Michael Payan has established himself as a leading pole vaulter in California high school athletics. With a personal best of 16 feet, Payan's impressive accomplishments include winning the CIF San Joaquin Section Championship and earning a third-place finish at the California State Championship. His relentless dedication and exceptional skill have marked him as a standout competitor in his event. 

Head Coach Sarah Ingram shared their enthusiasm, saying, "Michael's remarkable achievements in the pole vault highlight his hard work and determination. We are thrilled to welcome him to our team and anticipate his positive impact on our program. His athleticism and perseverance will be valuable assets to us."

Beyond his athletic success, Michael excels academically, maintaining a GPA of 3.8. He plans to major in Applied Fire Science and Management at Cal Poly Humboldt.

Cal Poly Humboldt eagerly welcomes Michael to the Lumberjack family and looks forward to his future at Humboldt.

Jamie Saunders
Cal Poly Humboldt is pleased to announce the signing of Jamie Saunders from La Canada High School in La Canada, California, to the Lumberjacks' Track and Field team.

Jamie Saunders has demonstrated his skill as a sprinter, specializing in the 200m and 400m events. With personal best of 22.89 seconds in the 200m, and 49.52 seconds in the 400m, Saunders has shown significant potential. He achieved a commendable sixth-place finish in the 400m at the CIF Southern Section Championship, highlighting his competitive spirit and dedication.

Head Coach Sarah Ingram expressed enthusiasm about Saunders joining the team, stating, "Jamie is a dynamic athlete with great potential in both the 200m and 400m events. His performances at the high school level showcase his dedication and skill, and we are excited to see him develop further as a Lumberjack. We believe he will be a strong addition to our team."

In addition to his athletic talents, Jamie is committed to his academic pursuits and plan to major in Business Administration at Cal Poly Humboldt. His focus and determination in both athletics and academics make him a well-rounded and valuable addition to the university community.

We are excited to welcome Jamie Saunders to the Lumberjack family and look forward to his contributions to the Track and Field team.

Canyon Buschbacher
Cal Poly Humboldt is excited to announce the signing Canyon Buschbacher from Capital High School in Boise, Idaho.

Canyon Buschbacher is a talented hurdler, excelling in both the 110m and 300m hurdles. With impressive personal best of 14.80 seconds in the 110m hurdles and 39.10 seconds in the 300m hurdles, Buschbacher has proven his competitive edge. He secured fifth-place in the 110m hurdles and fourth-place in the 300m hurdles at the District 3 5A Championship, and he was an Idaho State Meet qualifier, showcasing his dedication and skill.

Head Coach Sarah Ingram expressed excitement about Buschbacher joining the team, stating, "Canyon is a versatile and determined athlete whose experience in the hurdles and long jump makes him an excellent candidate for the decathlon. We are thrilled to have him join our team and look forward to supporting his growth and development in multiple events. His athleticism and commitment will be a great asset to our program."

In addition to his athletic abilities, Canyon plans to major in Fisheries at Cal Poly Humboldt, demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence alongside his athletic pursuits. We are delighted to welcome Canyon to the Humboldt Track and Field team.

Isaak Kasso
Cal Poly Humboldt is excited to announce the signing of local standout Isaak Kasso from Ferndale High School in Ferndale, California.

Isaak has made a name for himself as a standout hurdler and jumper. With personal best of 14.65 seconds in the 100mh, 20'5" in the long jump, and 43'5" in the triple jump, Kasso's athletic ability is evident. He achieved first-place in the 110m hurdles, second-place in the 300m hurdles, and second-place in the triple jump at the Humboldt-Del North Championship. His success continued with a fourth-place finish in the 110m hurdles at the CIF North Coach Championship.

Head Coach Sarah Ingram expressed excitement about Kasso joining the team, saying, "Isaak is a versatile and talented athlete whose achievements in the hurdles, jumps, and sprints make the decathlon a great option for him. We are thrilled to have a local athlete of his caliber join our program and look forward to supporting him in his development. He will be a great asset to our team."

Isaak plans to major in Kinesiology at Humboldt, making his academic success a priority. We are delighted to welcome Isaak to the Lumberjack Family.

Ruari Mulrey
Cal Poly Humboldt is thrilled to announce the signing of Ruari Mulrey from Idaho City High School in Idaho City, Idaho.

Ruari has established himself as an exceptional discus thrower and hurdler, showing promise in the decathlon. With a personal best of 165'10"in the discus and a time of 15.53 seconds in the 110m hurdles, Mulrey's talents are apparent. He secured first place in both the discus and 110m hurdles at the District 3 1A/2A Championship and continued his success with a first place finish in the discus at the Idaho 1A/2A/3A State Championship.

Head Coach Sarah Ingram had this to say about Mulrey, "Ruari is a versatile athlete whose achievements in the discus and hurdles along with his potential in the decathlon, make him an exciting addition to our team. We are thrilled to have him on our team and are looking forward to seeing his talents unfold in the discus and hurdles, as well as his potential future in the decathlon, hammer throw, and javelin.

Ruari plans to major in Wildlife Management at Cal Poly Humboldt, and is equally committed to his academic success at the collegiate level.

Damian Greenwood
The Lumberjacks are excited to announce the addition of Damian Greenwood from San Mateo City College, in San Mateo, California.

Damian is a single event athlete, and competes in the javelin throw. With a personal best of 159'1", Damian will add much-needed depth to the javelin squad at Humboldt. In 2024, Greenwood secured points for his team in both the Coast Conference Championship and the 2024 Northern Coast Championship, showing his capability to compete to his potential when it counts. 

Assistant Coach Teigan Eilers showed his excitement for Greenwood, by saying, "I am very excited to add Damian to our team, he will come in and hit the ground running, already being one of the best javelin throwers in our conference. It is a much-needed area of improvement on our team and Damian will help secure points in an area we need them." 

Damian plans on majoring in Communications at Cal Poly Humboldt, and is excited to continue his academic and athletic pursuits for the Lumberjacks.

Donovan Bailey
Cal Poly Humboldt is excited to add yet another 400m runner to the team, Donovan Bailey. Donovan is coming from Sacramento City College in Sacramento, California. 

Donovan is primarily a 200m and 400m runner, but also consistently ran on the 4x400m relay team at Sacramento. With a personal best of 49.87 seconds in the 400m, Donovan will be joining one of the most talented groups of 400m runners at Humboldt in recent history. At the 2024 Northern Coast Championship, Bailey saved his best for last, runner a personal best time in the prelims, where he went on to place sixth in finals. He will be joined by teammate Adam Smith, providing Humboldt with a duo of talented sprinters.

Donovan plans to major in Psychology at Cal Poly Humboldt, after receiving his AA Degree from Sac City College.

Alan Razo
Alan Razo will join the Lumberjacks this fall, coming from La Canada High School in La Canada, California. 

Razo will add depth to the long sprints and 400m hurdle group. Focusing primarily on the short sprints in his first several years of high school track, Razo decided to focus primarily on the 300m hurdles, 400m, and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays his senior year. With a time of 51.39 seconds in the 400m and 41.63 seconds in the 300m hurdles, Razo will join the Lumberjacks looking to improve alongside a very competitive group of sprinters and hurdlers. Razo is joined by teammate Jamie Saunders, who competed alongside him at La Canada High School and together competed very strongly at the 2024 Nike Outdoor National in the 4x400, securing a sixth-place finish with a time of 3:22.73.

Alan plans on majoring in Business Administration and enjoys spending his time in nature and at the beach, making Cal Poly Humboldt a perfect fit.

Adam Smith
The Lumberjacks are excited to welcome the addition of Adam Smith from Sacramento City College in Sacramento, California. 

Adam is a talented sprinter in the 100m and 200m, and brings veteran experience in the 4x100m relay. With personal best times of 11.15 seconds in the 100m and 22.30 seconds in the 200m, Smith will add depth to an already talented group of short sprinters. At the 2024 Northern California Championship, Adam missed the final in the 200m, but came back to help his team win the title in the 4x100m relay with a time of 41.20 seconds. Several weeks later, Adam played a critical role at the 2024 California State Championship to help his team secure third-place in the 4x100m relay with a time of 40.75 seconds. With his experience in the relays and potential in the open sprints Smith will prove to be a valuable late addition to the Lumberjacks Track and Field team.

Boasting a 3.89 GPA at Sacramento City College, Smith plans to carry on his academic success at Humboldt, choosing to major in Kinesiology.

Gabriel Bondurant
Gabriel Bondurant will be joining the Lumberjacks this fall from Newburg High School in Newberg, Oregon.

Gabriel competes in the high jump and will add depth in a much-needed area for the Lumberjacks. With a personal best of 6'3.25, Bondurant will be a competitive asset for Humboldt and hit the ground running. In his 2024 season, Bondurant took the title at the 6A-3 Pacific Conference Championship, followed by a strong performance at the Oregon 6A State Championship, where he placed sixth. 

Along with his success in athletics, Bondurant excels in the classroom. Choosing to major in Mechanical Engineering, he will be challenged alongside his athletic pursuits at Cal Poly Humboldt.

Adam Garrison
Cal Poly Humboldt is excited to announce the addition of Adam Garrison, transferring from Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado.

The California native will return back to his home state after joining the Lumberjacks this fall as a pole vaulter. With a personal best of 14'9", Garrison will help the pole-vaulting squad with his expertise this fall. With two-years of collegiate eligibility remaining, Garrison will be training alongside a talented and experienced group of pole vaulters.

Seeking to take his knowledge of training further, Adam will be majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science.

Jevon Cloy
Cal Poly Humboldt is excited to welcome Jevon Cloy to the home of the Lumberjacks this fall, transferring from Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon.

Jevon, originally from Kentridge Washington, is a high hurdle specialist with a collegiate best of 15.40 over the 42" 110 meter hurdles. Jevon is primed to make an immediate impact at the conference level in the 110HH, and may add depth in other sprinting events as well having experience in individual sprints and contributing occasionally in relays. Jevon will have 2 years of eligibility remaining to compete for the Lumberjacks. 

An outstanding student boasting a 3.9 gpa, Jevon will major in Business Administration.

Arturo Sevilla
Concluding the Cal Poly Humboldt recruiting class of 2024-24, the Lumberjacks welcome aboard Arturo Sevilla from Poway High School in Poway, California. 

Arturo is excited to join a very prominent group of athletes as a 400m and 400m hurdle runner.

Running primarily the 200m (23.44) and 400m (51.39) in high school, Sevilla will join the Lumberjacks to pursue a future in the 400m hurdles. With a strong group of hurdlers present at Humboldt, Sevilla will sharpen his skills and seek success in a new event. 

Arturo will add to his athletic endeavors, by seeking a degree in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in Pre-Health.
