Triathlon Looks To Punch Their Ticket To Nationals At West Regional Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's triathlon team will start its postseason on Sunday, Oct. 26, competing at the West Regional Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. The Lumberjacks will face a deep field of Division I and II programs in one of the final major competitions before the national championship.

LAST TIME OUT

The Lumberjacks are coming off an impressive showing at the Prairie State Collegiate Cup in DeWitt, Illinois, where they finished sixth overall out of 18 teams and fourth among Division II programs. Leading the way was sophomore Averill Payne, who secured a top-10 finish by crossing the line ninth overall in 1:04:10. Poppy Edge followed with a strong 23rd-place effort, while Teagan Farrell and Eve Wendley rounded out the scoring lineup with finishes of 28th and 40th, respectively.

The result marked another milestone for the Humboldt program, which entered the meet ranked sixth nationally in the CTCA Division II poll and continued to build momentum against elite competition. The team is now ranked fifth nationally ahead of the West Regional Championships.

WEST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

This weekend's West Regional Championships will feature a challenging course that mirrors the NCAA Championship format, consisting of a 750-meter swim, 12-mile bike, and 3.2-mile run. The meet will serve as both a regional title race and a final opportunity for Humboldt to strengthen its national ranking ahead of postseason competition.

Head coach Kinsey Mattison's squad will look to carry its recent success into Fort Worth, with Payne, Edge, Farrell, and Wendley anchoring a lineup that has demonstrated both consistency and improvement throughout the fall season.
