DEWITT, Ill. — The Cal Poly Humboldt women's triathlon team turned in a strong performance at the Prairie State Collegiate Cup on Saturday, October 4, finishing sixth overall out of 18 teams in a deep national field of NCAA competitors. The Jacks posted a team score of 345, placing fourth among Division II programs in the Draft-Legal Sprint Collegiate Club Race.
The event, held in DeWitt, Illinois, featured a 750-meter swim, 12-mile bike, and 3.2-mile run, bringing together top collegiate triathletes from across the country.
Humboldt was led by Averill Payne, who earned a Top-10 finish, crossing the line ninth overall in 1:04:10. Poppy Edge also placed among the leaders, finishing 23rd with a time of 1:06:16. Teagan Farrell and Eve Wendley rounded out Humboldt's scoring contingent, placing 28th (1:08:12) and 40th (1:11:33) respectively, helping secure the Jacks' sixth-place team finish (fourth across Division II).
Prior to racing this weekend, the Jacks were ranked sixth in the CTCA national rankings. After a solid showing this weekend and first collegiate cup race of the season, Coach Kinsey Mattison and the team will wait for their new ranking that is set to release within the coming week.
The Prairie State Collegiate Cup served as another strong showing for Cal Poly Humboldt as the program continues to build momentum against top-tier collegiate competition for the West Regional Championships coming up on October, 26 in Fort Worth, Texas.
