Jacks Battle to Scoreless Draw at UC Merced

MERCED, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer battled to a tightly contested 0-0 draw against UC Merced on Thursday afternoon at Bobcat Field. The Jacks outshot the Bobcats 10-6 and controlled much of the tempo but were unable to find the back of the net.

With the result, Cal Poly Humboldt moves to 5-5-6 overall and 3-2-4 in conference play, while UC Merced stands at 6-6-4 overall and 3-5-1 in league action.

The Jacks generated consistent offensive pressure throughout the match, recording four shots on goal to the Bobcats' two. Sari Murphy led the attack with four total shots and three on target, testing UC Merced's defense repeatedly in both halves.

Humboldt's best scoring opportunity came in the 79th minute when Murphy fired a shot toward the bottom center of the goal that was turned away by Alicia Lepe. Moments later, Alexis Blue followed up with another dangerous look, but Lepe made a second consecutive save to keep the game level.

The talented Lumberjack defensive unit held strong, limiting UC Merced to just six total shots and only two on frame. The Jacks' goalkeepers finished with two saves to preserve the clean sheet—Humboldt's ninth shutout of the season.

The match featured a physical tone throughout, with each side picking up multiple cautions. Humboldt totaled eight fouls to UC Merced's nine, while the Bobcats held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Despite several late offensive pushes, the Jacks couldn't capitalize before the final whistle.

The 'Jacks are still in the top-5 of the CCAA standings and will be fighting for seeding position in their final two matches of the regular season to clinch a spot in the CCAA Tournament. Free admission is presented by DANCO at College Creek Field for all home regular season matches.
