ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer earned its first conference victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday afternoon at College Creek Field. The Lumberjacks (3-3-3, 1-0-1 CCAA) broke through in the second half behind senior forward Frida Duran Arellano's penalty kick goal, sealing a strong defensive weekend for Humboldt.
After a scoreless opening half, Humboldt's persistence on offense paid off immediately in the second half. In the 46th minute, Frida Duran Arellano found the back of the net on a penalty kick to put the Lumberjacks ahead 1-0. The penalty kick came as Humboldt continued to press in the attacking third, outshooting the Toros 15-9 and recording nine shots on target.
The Lumberjacks' defense stayed composed down the stretch, with goalkeepers Carson Thomson-Terrel and Ari Beddoes combining for six saves and another clean slate. Beddoes collected two stops in the first half, while Thomson-Terrel tallied four saves in the second to preserve the shutout.
Humboldt's midfielders and forwards applied consistent pressure throughout, led by Heidie Munoz's four shots and Karsyn Ross' three. Morgan Young and Camryn Patten each added two attempts, while Duran Arellano recorded two shots, both on frame, including the eventual game-winning PK.
