ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball concludes its non-conference schedule this weekend with a two-game trip to Alaska, facing Alaska Anchorage on Friday, Nov. 28 and Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, Alaska. The back-to-back matchups in the Sprite Tundra Tip-Off mark the final tune-ups before the Lumberjacks open CCAA play on Dec. 4.
Humboldt enters the week with momentum, riding a two-game winning streak after securing victories at the Bill Holtz Warrior Classic.
LAST TIME OUT
Cal Poly Humboldt picked up its first two wins of the 2025-26 season in Rocklin, Calif., showcasing defensive toughness, late-game poise, and breakout individual performances.
On Friday, the Lumberjacks grinded out a 65-64 win over Northwest Nazarene, handing the Nighthawks their lowest scoring total of the season thus far. Zaveion Bineyard powered Humboldt with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Rob Jenkins added 12 points, eight boards, and five assists. Humboldt dominated the glass 42-29 and opened the second half on a decisive 16-2 run to erase a halftime deficit. A final defensive stand sealed the first career win for head coach DJ Broome.
Saturday's matchup delivered even more intensity, as the 'Jacks outlasted Jessup University 85-81 in double overtime. Drew Ardouin erupted for a career-best 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting, and Jenkins followed with 28 points and several clutch plays, hitting a game-tying three with four seconds left to force overtime and later converting a driving layup to send the contest to a second extra period. Humboldt's composure at the free-throw line and strong contributions from the bench helped secure the road sweep.
Through four games, Humboldt has seen its offensive identity emerge behind the scoring duo of Ardouin and Jenkins, sturdy interior play from Shakir Odunewu and Bineyard, and growing depth across the rotation.
ANCHORAGE AWAITS
Alaska Anchorage (6-2, 0-0 GNAC) enters Friday's contest as one of the GNAC's most consistent defensive teams and presents a challenging environment inside the Alaska Airlines Center. The Seawolves have historically excelled at forcing turnovers and controlling tempo, making ball security and transition defense key priorities for the 'Jacks.
Humboldt will look to build on its recent momentum by continuing to rebound effectively, sustain balanced scoring, and carry over the late-game execution that defined last weekend's wins.
KNOCKING OFF THE NANOOKS
Saturday's matchup with Alaska Fairbanks (2-2, 0-0 GNAC) brings a different stylistic challenge. Humboldt's ability to defend the arc and limit second-chance opportunities will be central to the game plan.
For the 'Jacks, the trip provides a chance to solidify rotations, continue developing chemistry, and aim to extend their win streak before heading into CCAA play.
