Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Travel for NCAA West Regional Championships

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's and women's cross country teams continue postseason action this weekend, traveling to Monmouth, Oregon, for the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 8. The women's 6K race begins at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 10K at 11:15 a.m. at Ash Creek Preserve.

The Lumberjacks will race against a competitive field of programs from the CCAA, GNAC, and PacWest, all vying for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships later this month.

LAST TIME OUT

The Humboldt women turned in a strong team showing at the CCAA Championships, placing seventh overall out of 12 teams. Junior Isabel Perez-Zoghbi led the way for the 'Jacks, finishing 15th in 22:14.1 to earn All-CCAA honors for the second time in her career. Brinna Weiseth (41st, 23:34.0) and Lyla Fedio (57th, 24:02.3) followed as key contributors, while Maddie McKenna and Charlotte Leonard rounded out Humboldt's scoring five.

On the men's side, the Lumberjacks delivered one of their best collective performances of the season, finishing fifth out of 10 teams in a deep CCAA field. Jacob Christopher led the Green and Gold with a 26th-place finish (25:47.7), followed by Elias Wiggins (31st, 26:04.0) and Spencer Borin (37th, 26:19.1). Daniel Shaver and Arlo Gagnon rounded out the top five, as Humboldt's tight pack through the top 45 highlighted the team's depth and balance.

REGIONAL STAGE

Saturday's regional meet serves as the final step toward national qualification, with the top three teams in each race and the top two individuals, not on qualifying teams, earning automatic bids to the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Ash Creek Preserve, known for its fast and spectator-friendly layout, features a mix of grass and wood-chip terrain with gradual rolling hills, which serve to be conditions well-suited for the 'Jacks' disciplined pacing and pack-running strategy.
