ARCATA, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt Athletics is beginning a national search for a head coach.
During this transition Michael Schroer will continue to lead the program, serving as interim head cross country coach and interim assistant track & field coach.
Schroer's appointment provides continuity for the cross country and track & field programs and ensures stability for Cal Poly Humboldt's student-athletes as they prepare for upcoming competition seasons. His commitment to the student-athlete experience will support a seamless continuation of the program.
Cal Poly Humboldt Athletics also extends its appreciation to previous Interim Head Coach, Scott Pesch, for his leadership of the cross country programs throughout the fall season. His guidance and support were instrumental in guiding the team through the year while fostering a positive, competitive environment for the program's student-athletes.
The 2025 season demonstrated continued progress for Cal Poly Humboldt's cross country programs. The women's team placed seventh overall, highlighted by a two-place improvement at the CCAA Championships, a nearly one-minute average improvement compared to previous seasons, and an All-CCAA selection. The Lumberjacks also carried that momentum into postseason competition, improving four positions at the NCAA West Regional Championships. On the men's side, Humboldt finished fifth overall and maintained its position at the CCAA Championships, with contributions from two juniors, a sophomore, and two freshmen toward the team score—reflecting a strong foundation and positive outlook for the future of the program.
Additional updates regarding the cross country program will be shared as they become available.
