ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's track & field team delivered several standout performances in a highly competitive field at the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday, February 14, at the Laker Turf Building.
Sprint Events
Paul Domingue and Ryan Castro led the way in the men's 60-meter dash, finishing in 7.01 and 7.02 seconds, respectively, placing 15th and 19th overall. Connor Pratt clocked in at 7.27 seconds. Pratt also competed in the 200-meter dash but was unfortunately disqualified.
In the 400-meter dash, Joey Bowser posted a strong time of 49.49 seconds, placing 20th overall, while freshman Jamie Saunders impressed in the early section with a time of 50.34 seconds, securing a sixth-place finish.
Middle and Long-Distance Events
Zach Blood ran a strong 600-meter race, placing ninth with a time of 1:24.24. In the 800 meters, Julian Jensen and Dominic Raffetto finished in 1:55.68 and 1:56.76, taking 12th and 21st, respectively.
In the mile run, Sebastian Vaisset-Fauvel recorded a time of 4:21.21, placing 41st in a deep field. Meanwhile, Carson Smith highlighted the distance races with a dominant performance in the 5000-meter run, winning his section with a time of 15:03.32.
Hurdles & Relays
Bryce Pearson competed in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 8.88 seconds for a 32nd-place finish. The Lumberjacks' 4x400 relay team of Blood, Pearson, Saunders, and Bowser delivered an outstanding performance, finishing fourth with a time of 3:19.82.
Field Events
In the pole vault, freshman Michael Payan cleared 4.65m (15' 3"), finishing sixth overall. In the shot put, Joseph Gonzalez placed fifth with a mark of 15.72m (51' 7"), while teammate Derek Ray recorded a best throw of 13.73m (45' 0.5"), placing 15th.
