Humboldt Pushes No. 14 Dominguez Hills to the Wire, Falls 70-65

CARSON, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball took No. 14 Cal State Dominguez Hills to the limit on Thursday night, holding a five-point lead with 13 minutes remaining before the Toros clawed back to take a 70-65 victory inside the Torodome.

The Jacks (14-10, 10-9 CCAA) remain the only team in the CCAA to defeat the first-place Toros (21-4, 18-1 CCAA) this season, and they nearly did it again behind a second-half surge that put them in control early after the break.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After trailing by 10 at halftime, Humboldt stormed out in the second half, outscoring Dominguez Hills 24-9 in a seven-minute span. Kalib LaCount's three-pointer capped the rally and gave the Jacks a 47-42 lead with 13:09 to play.

Dominguez Hills responded with its own run, slowly regaining control thanks to clutch free-throw shooting. The Toros shot 19-of-20 from the line in the second half.

The Jacks will play their final road game of the regular-season against Cal State Los Angeles (11-14, 9-10 CCAA) on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 3:00 PM in Cal State LA Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles of LA sit in sixth place and tied for the final tournament spot with Cal State East Bay, both who are one game behind the Lumberjacks at 9-10 in CCAA play.
