Humboldt Track & Field Shines at Riverfront Invitational and Multi in Spokane

Spokane, Wash – Cal Poly Humboldt Track and Field delivered several standout performances at the Riverfront Invitational and Multi, highlighted by two Division 2 provisional national qualifying marks and multiple lifetime and season-best efforts. The highly competitive event consisted of over 35 teams competing, primarily Division I.

Men's Track & Field:

Bryce Pearson led the way, securing a provisional national qualifying mark in the Heptathlon with an impressive score of 4,830 points. On day one of the competition, Pearson had consistent performances in the 60m, long jump, and shot put, and had a standout performance in the high jump with a personal best of 1.88m (6'2). Pearson clawed his way back into the a very competitive competition with a season-best in the pole-vault (12'8), followed by an impressive effort in the 1,000m run with a time of 2:51.84. Pearson's well-round effort through the weekend current ranks him 31st amongst other Division 2 competitors. 

In the pole vault, Michael Payan cleared 16' in his first competition as a Jack, earning 7th place and a provisional national qualifying mark. His mark currently ranks him 27th in Division II nationally, and 2nd in the west region. 

On the track, Humboldt sprinters put up solid performances. Paul Domingue clocked 6.97 in the 60m, finishing 21st in a very competitive field, while Ryan Castro followed with a 7.03 to place 29th. Castro also posted a season-best time of 22.28 in the 200m, showcasing his speed over the longer distance. 

In the 400m, Joey Bowser ran 49.86, finishing 12th, while teammate Jamie Saunders set a season-best time of 50.27.

Middle-distance standout Elias Wiggins impressed in the 800m, finishing strong in the race clocking 1:54.62. His strong effort in the race displayed he is ready to go much faster this season. 

In the Field Events, Joseph Gonzalez recorded a lifetime best in the shot put with a throw of 51'7.25''. Gonzalez entered the meet ranking 18 out of 32 competitors, and ended placing 8th and advancing to finals in a very competitive field. Teammate Derek Ray also had a strong performance with a mark of 48'8.75''.

Women's Track & Field:

The day kicked off with Ginny Brooks clocking 9.49 in the 60m hurdles, falling just shy of her personal best. Teammate Chris Roberds had a breakthrough performance in the same event, running 9.49 for a .22-second lifetime best.

In the 60m dash, Mia Roberts ran a season-best, narrowly missing her personal record. Chris Roberds followed closely with a time of 8.28. The duo carried their momentum into the 200m, where Brielle Jimerson led the charge with a season-best 26.14, followed by Roberts (26.45) and Roberds (27.11), both also setting season-best marks. 

The distance medley relay (DMR) team of Mikenna Conan, Brielle Jimerson, Cocome McKamey, and Artana Nice closed out the first day with a strong 12:24.00 finish, ranking them 4th in the Division II West Region. Conan set the tone early with a fast 1,200m leg, Jimerson carried the 400m, McKamey made her season debut in the 800m, and Nice anchored with the mile. 

In the field events, Marelle Winuk put up a solid mark of 11.74m (38'6.25'') in the weight throw, adding to the team's well-rounded success.

The 400m squad stood out on Saturday, led by Cocome McKamey, who ran 59.71 in her debut 400m, placing 16th. Brielle Jimerson followed closely in 17th place with a season-best 59.88, while Mia Roberts took on her first-ever 400m, finishing in 1:02.77.

Humboldt Track and Field continues its indoor season with momentum, looking to build on these performances this week at Grand Valley State University, in Allendale, Michigan. The Jacks will compete both Friday and Saturday in a multitude of events to conclude the 2025 indoor season.
