SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt freshman Isaak Kasso put together an impressive decathlon performance at the Sam Adams Combined Events, hosted by UC Santa Barbara on March 5-6. Kasso achieved personal bests in seven of the ten events and finished fifth overall with 5,164 points in his collegiate decathlon outdoor debut.
Kasso's standout moment came in the 110-meter hurdles, where he clocked in at 15.44 seconds to win the event and earn 797 points, the highest single-event total of his meet. He also set new personal records in the 100 meters (11.74), high jump (1.69m), 400 meters (58.69), discus throw (32.08m), pole vault (3.05m), and 1500 meters (5:33.13). His strong all-around performance showcased his growth as a multi-event athlete and his potential to make an impact for the Lumberjacks.
Despite not setting personal bests in the long jump (5.64m), shot put (10.78m), and javelin throw (34.78m), Kasso remained competitive in those events, earning crucial points that contributed to his overall standing.
UC Santa Barbara's Hudson Shaver claimed the overall decathlon title with 6,615 points. Kasso's performance put him among the top finishers, highlighting his potential in future multi-event competitions.
