Cal Poly Humboldt Men’s Track & Field Secures Runner-Up Finish at Chico Invitational

CHICO, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's track & field team delivered a strong performance at the 2025 Chico Invitational, earning second place out of 14 competing teams over the two-day meet hosted by Chico State on April 11–12. The Lumberjacks produced several standout efforts across sprints, hurdles, distance, and field events, highlighted by multiple event titles and depth across the board.

Freshman Dylan Ochoa Shines in the 400 Meters

Freshman Dylan Ochoa turned heads with a blistering victory in the 400 meters, clocking a personal-best 48.42 to earn the top spot and 10 team points. Ochoa also contributed in the 200 meters with a sixth-place finish (22.31) and anchored the 'Jacks' 4x400 relay team that placed sixth overall.

Isaak Kasso Dominates Hurdles Events

Fellow freshman Isaak Kasso had a breakout meet in the hurdles, capturing the title in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.37 after running 15.17 in prelims. Kasso earned 10 points in the event, while teammate Walker Dorris followed close behind in second (15.67) to add eight more. Kasso also competed in the 200 and 400 meters, showcasing his versatility.

Michael DeTamble Wins 400m Hurdles

In the 400-meter hurdles, Michael DeTamble cruised to victory in a personal-best 56.14, a mark that now ranks 11th in the CCAA. He edged out teammate Walker Dorris once again, who placed second in 56.25. The 1-2 finish contributed another 18 points to Humboldt's team total and helped solidify their second-place finish overall.

Michael Payan Wins Pole Vault

Michael Payan secured an event win in the pole vault, adding a key 10 points to the team's total with a first-place performance.

Cal Poly Humboldt's combination of individual wins, personal bests, and relay success vaulted them to a second-place team finish among 14 teams at the meet. The 'Jacks will look to carry this momentum into the final stretch of the regular season as they head to Southern California to begin competing in events on Wednesday.
