ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt Track & Field hit the road in full force this past weekend, competing at five different meets—four in Southern California and one in San Francisco. While team scores weren't tallied, the Lumberjacks put together an impressive showing full of personal bests and new entries into the program's all-time top-10 list.
Headlining the weekend was Joseph Gonzalez, who added his name to the history books in the discus at the Cal State LA Twilight, throwing 155' 2.00" to take eighth all-time in program history. Gonzalez also tied his second all-time mark in the shot put with a throw of 53' 4.25" at the Bryan Clay Invitational, continuing a standout season.
Sprinter Dylan Ochoa also made history in Los Angeles, clocking a 21.78 in the 200m, good for 10th all-time at Humboldt. Ochoa joined forces with Joey Bowser, Cristian Megas, and Ryan Castro to form the men's 4x100 relay team, which blazed to a time of 41.56, placing them sixth in program history.
Michael Payan continued his impressive freshman campaign by securing his fifth NCAA Division II provisional mark of the season in the pole vault, doing so at the Beach Invitational. He remains one of the Jacks' most consistent postseason contenders.
Otis Kelly delivered a stellar double PR weekend with a 4:01.47 in the 1500m at Beach and a 14:44.79 in the 5,000m at Bryan Clay—massive improvements as he builds momentum heading into conference.
Walker Dorris also doubled up on PRs at Bryan Clay, clocking 15.19 in the 110m hurdles and 55.51 in the 400m hurdles, continuing to lower his times as the championship portion of the season approaches.
Across all events and meets—spanning Cal State LA Twilight, Bryan Clay Invitational, ULV Leopard Invitational Beach Invitational, and the Johnny Mathis Invite—the Jacks saw strong performances from athletes across the board, showing depth and growth in nearly every discipline.
"We're extremely proud of how our team performed across the board this weekend," said head coach Sarah Ingram. "To come away with so many personal bests and multiple new top-10 program marks while competing at some very competitive meets says a lot about the work this group has put in."
