ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt Men's Basketball head coach DJ Broome has announced the addition of John Seavey to its coaching staff ahead of the 2025–26 season. Seavey joins the Lumberjacks after serving as the lead assistant at Cal State Monterey Bay for the past three seasons (2022–25).

"I am super excited to have John on board," said Broome. "His hunger and experience both at the college level and in the CCAA specifically made it an easy decision on my end. We are lucky to have him and look forward to the role he will play in helping build this program."

During his time with the Otters, Seavey was instrumental in recruiting, player development, and opponent scouting, helping CSUMB make significant strides in the competitive CCAA.

Before joining Cal State Monterey Bay, Seavey spent five seasons at UC Santa Barbara under Head Coach Joe Pasternack. He began his tenure as Director of Player Development and Video Coordinator before being promoted to Director of Basketball Operations in 2019. During his time with the Gauchos, UCSB enjoyed multiple 20-win seasons and postseason appearances, establishing itself as a Big West Conference powerhouse.

Seavey's coaching journey began at the University of Arizona, where he served under Head Coach Sean Miller. As part of the Wildcats' staff, he contributed to player development and opponent scouting. Including his time as a student assistant, Seavey was part of five NCAA Tournament teams, three Pac-12 championships, and two Elite Eight runs with Arizona.

A two-time graduate of the University of Arizona, Seavey earned his bachelor's degree in Sports and Society in 2016 and a master's in Educational Leadership in 2017.

"I am thrilled to join the Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball program under Coach Broome's leadership," stated Seavey. "I look forward to playing a role in the growth and success of our student-athletes, both on and off the court. Go Jacks!"
