ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt head men's basketball coach DJ Broome announced on Wednesday the signing of 6'11" center, Shakir Odunewu.

"I'm really excited for this portion of Shak's journey," said Broome. "I know this community will wrap their arms around him and he will be a huge contributor to what we build in this next year."

'Shak' transfers to Cal Poly Humboldt from Division I Cal State Bakersfield, where he appeared in 28 games. Previously, he played at West Valley College (2023-24) and averaged 16.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest over 31 games started. Shak received First Team All-State, First Team All-Conference, NABC CCCAA All-America honors, and was named NorCal Freshman of the Year. He recorded 539 total points and 319 total rebounds in his lone season at West Valley CC. Shak had a season-high 31-point game against Foothill, where he shot 92.9% (13-14 FG) from the field and led his team to a 100-82 victory.
