ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer team closed out their three-game homestand on Thursday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Biola at College Creek Field. The defeat leaves the Jacks with a 0-2-1 record as they head into a brief road stretch, while Biola improves to 2-1-0 on the season.
The game's lone goal came in the 10th minute, when Biola's Briley Phelps found the back of the net off an assist from Marije Rechin. Despite a strong effort by the Humboldt offense throughout the match, they were unable to break through Biola's defense, with the Eagles holding strong for the shutout victory.
The Jacks were the more aggressive side in terms of shots, registering 16 attempts to Biola's 12, including six shots on goal. Humboldt also earned six corner kicks compared to the Eagles' two, but despite these advantages, Biola's defense and goalkeeper, who made six saves, stood firm.
Biola goalkeeper Autum Monty was credited with six saves in the match, while 'Jacks goalkeepers, Carson Thomson-Terrel and Ari Beddoes, combined for three saves.
The match featured a clean contest, with only 4 fouls committed by the Jacks and 2 by Biola. However, the Eagles' early goal proved to be the difference in the contest, as the Jacks were unable to find the equalizer.
