Lumberjacks Secure First Win of the Season with 3-1 Victory Over Fresno Pacific on Saturday

San Rafael, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer picked up its first win of the 2025 campaign on Saturday morning, defeating Fresno Pacific 3-1 at Kennelly Field. With the result, the Lumberjacks improve to 1-2-1 overall, while the Sunbirds fall to 0-3-0.

The Jacks' attack came alive in their neutral-site matchup, outshooting Fresno Pacific 14-8 and producing three different goal scorers in the contest.

Graduate student Payton Heaney opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, finishing a setup from Nicole Beauchemin to give Humboldt a 1-0 advantage. The assist was Beauchemin's first of the season.

The Jacks doubled their lead early in the second half when Alia Prentiss found the back of the net in the 58th minute, her first collegiate goal at Humboldt. Less than a minute later, Fresno Pacific's Takoah Castillo responded to cut the margin to 2-1, but Humboldt regrouped and closed out the match strong.

In the 75th minute, senior Annie Hoffman extended the Jacks' lead to 3-1, finishing off a pass from Karsyn Ross to seal the victory.

Humboldt's defensive unit held firm down the stretch, limiting the Sunbirds to just three shots in the second half. Goalkeepers Carson Thomson-Terrel and Ari Beddoes combined for three saves in the win.

Statistically, the Jacks dominated possession and opportunities, earning an 8-1 edge in corner kicks and putting nine shots on goal compared to Fresno Pacific's four.

Beauchemin picked up the Lumberjacks' lone caution in the 65th minute.

Cal Poly Humboldt will now turn its attention to the state of Colorado as they have two road matches next week in the rocky mountain state.
