MONMOUTH, Ore. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer will wrap up its two-game trip to Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 20, taking on Western Oregon at 1 p.m. PT at WOU Soccer Field. The Lumberjacks look to build on their midweek victory and carry that progress into their final non-conference match before shifting focus toward the heart of their schedule.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lumberjacks (2-2-1) picked up their second win of the season on Thursday afternoon, defeating Saint Martin's 2-0. Erwin Manibusan Jr. opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a low strike to the left corner, while Nathan Murff doubled the lead in the 31st minute with a goal to the right side.
The Humboldt defense held strong throughout, with goalkeeper Edwin Monterrosa recording six saves to earn the team's first shutout of the season. Both teams finished with 11 total shots and six corner kicks, but the Lumberjacks' clinical first-half performance proved to be the difference.
LUMBERJACKS ON WOLVES WATCH
Western Oregon (3-1-1) enters Saturday's match looking to add to their four-game streak without a loss. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs, so expecting the unexpected is something both teams will need to keep their minds on in seeking a win.
The contest also marks the fourth match of a six-game road stretch for Humboldt, which will continue to test itself away from home before returning to Arcata for CCAA play. The 'Jacks will aim to replicate Thursday's balanced performance on both ends of the pitch and head home on a winning note.
