HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's volleyball team will launch its 2025 season this week at the Hawai'i Challenge, playing four matches in three days across Honolulu. The Lumberjacks will open against Chaminade on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. PT inside McCabe Gym before facing UCCS and Hawai'i Hilo on Friday. The tournament wraps up Saturday against Hawai'i Pacific at 12 p.m. PT at the Shark Tank.
Cal Poly Humboldt enters the season looking to grow with one of the youngest rosters in the CCAA. Picked 10th in the CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll, the Lumberjacks feature 13 newcomers, including 11 freshmen, alongside a group of key returners in senior Sophia Spoja, junior Graysen Trupp, and sophomores Hollis Downing, Amelia Perla, Sadie Scott, and Brielle Wilson. Head coach Angela Spoja begins her fourth year at the helm and is excited to see her squad gain experience in an early-season tournament atmosphere.
With a young roster and plenty of opportunities ahead, the Jacks will look to use the Hawai'i Challenge as a springboard into the 2025 season.
CHALLENGING THE FIELD
The Humboldt Lumberjacks face a total of four different opponents at the Hawai'i Challenge, starting with the Silverswords on Thursday. Chaminade is coming off a strong 2024 campaign where they went 28-5, including 20-0 in conference play. On Friday morning, the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs will be next to take on the Jacks. Humboldt will close out Friday against Hawai'i Hilo later in the evening. The tournament closes Saturday with Hawai'i Pacific, who will enjoy home-court advantage at the Shark Tank.
