Volleyball Travels to Central Valley Seeking First Win of the Season

MERCED, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball will hit the road for a two-match swing in the Central Valley this week, beginning with a conference clash at UC Merced on Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. PT followed by Stanislaus State on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. PT. The Lumberjacks look to break through for their first victory of the season before making their way back to the coast.

LAST TIME OUT

The Lumberjacks (0-10, 0-2 CCAA) opened the Cal Poly Clash at home on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets to Cal Poly Pomona 3-0 (21-25, 17-25, 15-25).

Humboldt battled early, tallying 10 kills in a competitive opening set led by Graysen Trupp, who finished with a team-high nine kills. Brielle Wilson sparked the Jacks' service game with three aces, while Phoebe Bland and Kendall Fenstermacher each added two. Defensively, Sophia Spoja recorded a team-best 12 digs, with Wilson and Claire Crawford contributing 10 and eight, respectively.

BESTING THE BOBCATS

UC Merced (2-9, 1-1 CCAA) enters Friday's contest looking to find its mojo at home. This matchup marks a valuable midseason test for Humboldt as the Jacks continue to develop their young roster and seek to translate recent competitive stretches into a full-match performance. This marks the 'Jacks first contest against UC Merced, making for an exciting and unforeseeable outcome.

WARDING OFF WARRIORS

Stanislaus State (4-5, 2-0 CCAA) is currently on a three-game winning streak and look to make it four heading into their contest against Humboldt on its Alumni Night. The 'Jacks will look to spoil the streak on the road and seek revenge following their tilt last season, where the Warriors took the win 3-0.

Humboldt has the upper hand when looking at the history of the two teams, including on the road (18-13) and in their last four matchups (3-1), which is promising for the young squad.
