NEWPORT, Ore. – Cal Poly Humboldt Women's Triathlon earned a narrow team victory over Willamette University on Sunday morning at the Newport Harbor Triathlon, edging the Bearcats by a single point, 68–67. The race featured a 500-yard swim, 12-mile bike ride, and 3.1-mile run along the Oregon coast.
Sophomore Anna Hanstveit led the way for the Lumberjacks, claiming the individual title with a time of 1:06:15.7, nearly five minutes ahead of the next competitor. First-year Rylee Morris made it a dominant one-two finish for Humboldt, crossing the line in 1:11:34.7 to secure second place overall.
Rounding out Humboldt's scoring pack, Sierra Erlandson (8th, 1:16:07.9), Evelyn Higgins (9th, 1:16:09.7), and Aydee Arredondo (10th, 1:17:12.3) all finished within one minute of each other, providing the depth needed to outlast Willamette. Camille Shaver also contributed a strong showing, placing 18th in 1:23:07.0.
The balanced effort allowed the 'Jacks to narrowly claim the team win, their strong front-end performance proving decisive in the scoring margin.
Cal Poly Humboldt will return to action next Saturday, October 4, at the Prairie State Collegiate Cup in Clinton, Illinois.
