Jo Arzadon tallied a team-high 10 kills in the Jacks loss to the Wildcats.
ARCATA – The Humboldt State volleyball team fell in three to Chico State Saturday.

The Lumberjacks now hold a 7-12 overall record while falling 5-7 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. The Wildcats post a 15-7 overall record and 8-4 CCAA mark.

Joliann Arzadon posted a team-high 10 kills, while Liz Shannon contributed 17 assists as the Lumberjacks out blocked Chico State 12 to 2.

Lindsay Macias' double-double paced the Wildcats with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Erica Brick dished out 39 assists.

“We were good enough to force adjustments to the other team, but we were not able to make our own,” Humboldt State's head volleyball coach Sue Woodstra said. “During the match we need to be able to make quicker adjustments.”

Tallying the first three points of the night were Chico State. Humboldt State was able to tie set one at 16-16, but four kills, a service ace and two errors on the Jacks, ended the set in favor of the Wildcats' 25-19.

Set two showed the Lumberjacks taking an early lead with a 7-2 score, before the Wildcats put up a fight to tie the set at 10-10. Humboldt State not able to regain the lead finished the set 20-25.

In the third set the Jacks fought hard as the Wildcats pulled away from a 4-4 tie to take a four-point lead at 12-8, that they never let up. A kill by Toni Kroeker at 20-23 gave the Jacks hopes for a comeback but a kill by Kelly Smiland and an attacking error on the Jacks ended the match with a 25-20 score.

Humboldt State travels south next weekend to face Cal State L.A. Friday and Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday as it continues CCAA competition. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.
