LACEY, Wash. – Ben Vasser scored his first two goals of the season, but for the second game in a row the Humboldt State's Men's soccer team allowed an early goal and lost to a Great Northwest Athletics conference opponent.  On Monday it was a goal in the seventh minute that led to a 4-3 loss at Saint Martin's University.

The loss drops the Lumberjacks record to 1-2-1 on the season, while Saint Martin's improves to 3-2-0 overall.

With the SMU up 1-0 after Xan Nixon's goal at the 6:19 mark, the Saints increased their advantage to 2-0 when Victor Kelmel blasted a shot from 25 yards out that found the top right corner of the net at the 30:54 mark.

The Jacks cut the lead in half 12 minutes later.  Vasser, a senior out of Los Altos, Calif., netted his second goal of the season in the 43rd minute.  The teams went to the locker room at the half with the score 2-1.

Any momentum the Jacks took into half time was quickly lost as SMU scored two and a half minutes in the second half to push their advantage back to two goals at 3-1.

The score remained the same until the 81:22 mark.  The Jacks' Daniel Adamski got his first goal of the season on a feed from Brian Holmes.  The shot sailed into the right side of the net and cut the Saints' lead to 3-2.

Saint Martin's came right back in the 85th minute and scored on a deflection off Lumberjacks' keeper Kyle Verle.

One minute later, at the 85:08 mark, Vasser got his second of the match.  The goal was unassisted and provided the winning margin for Saint Martin's 4-3.

Verle made four saves and took the loss in goal.  His record in now 1-2-1.

The Jacks open California Collegiate Athletics Association action this weekend with a pair of matches in Redwood Bowl.  On Friday they take on Chico State (2-1-0) at 4:30 p.m.  They finish the two game set on Sunday with a 11:30 a.m. kickoff against CSU Stanislaus (3-0-0).
