Jacks swept at San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO – The Humboldt State volleyball squad struggled to mount a consistent threat against the No. 8 ranked team in the nation, Cal State San Bernardino, dropping a California Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball match in three straight sets on Saturday evening.

The loss left Humboldt State 1-20 overall, 1-16 in the CCAA.   Cal State San Bernardino improved its record to 21-2, 17-1 in league action.

HSU kept the matches tight throughout the early going in each set, only to surrender big runs to the Coyotes around the midway point. The final scores were 25-13, 25-7, 25-15.

Samantha Middleborn led the Coyotes' offense with nine kills in 16 attempts and Jane Chafeh had seven kills in 15 attempts. Kelcie Tolan totaled 10 digs for CSUSB.

Oceana Matsubu and Taylor Manuel carried the bulk of HSU's attack, putting away six kills in 23 and 22 attempts respectively. The pair also led the team with six digs eachto top the Jacks' defense.

The Jacks return to action on November 3 when they host Sonoma State at 7 p.m. in Lumberjack Arena.
