CSUDH grabbed the first point of the match, but couldn't break away from the Jacks just yet. Both teams went back and forth until the Toros made their move with the set tied at 4-4. Prusa initiated a 5-1 run with a powerful kill, helping her team to only surrender one point to the Jacks off a service error to put Cal State Dominguez Hills up 9-5. HSU continued to battle, staying within four points of the Toros, but couldn't seem to find an equalizing point.
Down 23-18, desperation kicked in as Rosendale put down three kills and an ace to help the Jacks tie the set at 25-25. Neither team seemed willing to surrender the final set point as each dug deep in long rallies. Rosendale found a hole in the Toro defense to give the Jacks a 27-26 lead, before

Kelci Renshaw's assist to hand the Jacks the 28-26 set win.
Merry Ellen Ackema gave the Jacks the first point of the second set, but Humboldt State didn't hold onto the lead for very long. The Toros grabbed the next two points, but couldn't shake the Jacks as another back-and-forth battle commenced.
Tied at 6-6, CSUDH keyed down on defense and picked up three points off putting down a kill, setting up a block and forcing the Jacks to commit an attack error. Ackema put the game back within two points, but the Toros drove on to keep the Jacks in their trail. Down by six points, Drobish and Rosendale teamed up to block a Toro attack and Rosendale added a kill in the next play to put the game at 23-19, but Cal State Dominguez Hills finished the next two points to take the set 25-19 and tie the match at 1-1.
Feeling revived from the second set, the Toros started the third strong and grabbed an early 3-1 lead. Although the Jacks couldn't surpass CSUDH, they weren't ready to give in to the Toros and matched the host team's points to tie the set at 8-8. Attack errors plagued the Jacks, however, as Humboldt State handed Cal State Dominguez Hills five of its next six points, one of which came off a solo block effort from Delea Pursel.
Two attack errors from the Toros brought the Jacks back in the game, but Humboldt State couldn't find its rhythm and quickly found itself trailing 20-12. The hole proved to be too much for HSU to climb out of as the Jacks fell 25-16, giving CSUDH a 2-1 edge in the match.
With the momentum in its favor, Cal State Dominguez Hills dominated a huge 9-0 lead to start the fourth. An attack error from Prusa put the Jacks on the board and Washington's ace cut the lead to seven, but the Toros were determined to finish the match and used long rallies to wear out the Jacks.

Cal State Dominguez Hills exploited the holes on the Jacks' side of the net and put itself within match-point at 24-10.
