Lumberjacks return home for challenging weekend

ARCATA — After playing six of its last seven games on the road, Humboldt State is excited to be back in the comforts of home. Getting ready for this weekend's action won't be a relaxing time for the Jacks, however, as the team hopes to snap a six-game losing streak.

The Jacks will have to battle for victory as they host two tough California Collegiate Athletic Association teams. On Thursday, Sept. 20, HSU will face defending CCAA Champions since 2006 Cal State San Bernardino, before taking on UC San Diego, who finished third in the conference last year, on Saturday, Sept. 22. Both matches will start at 7 p.m. in Lumberjack Arena.

Head-to-Head
The matchup between Humboldt State and Cal State San Bernardino over the years has left the Coyotes with the upper hand in the all-time series at 15-3. Last year, CSUSB swept the series against the Jacks, winning both games in three sets.

UC San Diego has dominated the all-time series, surrendering just one match to the Jacks, while taking 11 victories. In 2011, the Jacks battled with the Tritons on the road, but couldn't push through to victory, falling in three sets (26-24, 25-14, 29-27). UCSD also claimed a three-set win in Lumberjack Arena last year.

Woodstra's Words
"We need to be able to keep our energy and composure up. We're not very consistent. If we get down, we beat ourselves up. We put up a great fight in the fourth set against Chico State, but we need to do that every time. ... We still need to work on getting better touches off the ball and better passes. ... We can compete with any team. We just need to keep believing in ourselves and reduce our errors. We need to focus better."
