Jacks look for goal and winning gold on road

Allie Swanson
ARCATA - Home field did not turn out to help provide a great result the past two weeks for Humboldt State on the women's soccer pitch.  HSU will look to put the ball back into the net and turn the scores into match gold on the road this weekend.

The Lumberjacks will begin a period of five of their last six matches on the road to wrap up the fall campaign.

HSU will begin against CCAA South Division leading CSU San Bernardino on Friday afternoon before heading back north to play Chico State on Sunday.

     Second tough home weekend

Home is suppose to be where a team plays its best.  HSU had various moments of playing extremely well over last weekend but could not boot the ball into the opponent's goal over 210 minutes of play.

The visiting San Francisco State Gators were able to put one of their four shots on goal when Mariela Holquin put a bounding corner kick across the goal crease into the net for the match's lone score, 1-0, at 47:12 last Friday.

Colette Behen put all three of her shot attempts on net along with one each from Lizzie Mitchell and Sydney Nicholas but all coming with no results against the Gators.

The Sunday affair had a better Jacks result, but still no win to show for it.

HSU's offensive struggles continued, but it's stingy defense led the way —holding Cal State Monterey Bay scoreless for 110 minutes in an eventual 0-0 scoreless tie.

The result ended the HSU three-match losing skid, but continued the winless stretch of matches to eight.

In the final four minutes, the Jacks had their best scoring two chances as Maddi Null missed once to the left (86:06) and to the right less than a minute later (87:00) but to no avail.

Coach Karver's Comments on last weekend:

"We played well this past weekend and our chances in front of goal have a good deal of quality in them, we just needed to finish them."

Jacks try again to end drought

In one of the longest scoring droughts in recent seasons, HSU will look to find what has been off limits of sorts the past five-plus matches.

It has been 482:43 since Colette Behen put the ball into the net 7:17 into the match on Sept. 29 at Cal Poly Pomona.

     Woolcock proves solid in goal

The HSU defense has been extremely tough in 10 of the 12 matches this season.

Goalie Amber Woolcock has taken advantage of her time in goal over the past two matches.  The junior allowed only a single tally over 210 minutes in the net last weekend.

Woolcock has a 0.58 goals against average and 23 saves over 311 minutes of action this fall with two shutouts.
