Zach Hammond saw his goal answered by Sonoma's Taylor Varnadore's six-point day to take Friday's host to victory.
Hammond gave the Lumberjacks the first half lead for what turned out to be six minutes, before Varnadore tied it to begin his big day for the Seawolves.
Deadlocked at one apiece, Varnadore assisted on the go ahead score five minutes into the second half and added a second goal and assist to complete a 4-1 men's soccer victory.
The HSU loss virtually eliminates the team from CCAA North title contention. The Jacks drop to 6-8-1 on the year and 4-8-1 in the CCAA North.
Sonoma State (7-4-4/6-4-3 CCAA North) doubled the visitors' shots in both halves, 10-5 and 11-4, for a 21-9 total.
The contest was scoreless until
Austin Swartz pass the ball over to Hammond, who connected right to left from around eight yards out at 28:45. The goal was Hammond's CCAA-leading 12
th on the year.
Only 6:12 later, the highlights belonged to Varnadore and the Seawolves the rest of the match.
Ryan Ades did record seven saves in goal for HSU.
The Jacks wrap up their weekend road trip with an 11:30 a.m. Sunday match at Cal State East Bay.
