Jacks Look to Continue Wins in Home Opening Weekend

ARCATA, Calif. - After a successful two-win weekend, Humboldt State men's soccer looks to continue the winning way with  its home opening weekend.

The Lumberjacks open their slate of College Creek Field matches in the Lumberjack Classic on Thursday and Saturday. HSU will face Holy Names on Thursday at 4 p.m. and BYU-Hawaii on Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m. Chico State will face the same teams in opposite order on the same days.

BEST START IN SIX YEARS

With three victories in the first four matches, HSU is off to its best start in six years and five seasons. In 2008, the Jacks started their season 3-0-1.

HSU can also enter unfamiliar territory for the program on Thursday. With a win against Holy Names, the team can record its fourth win of the year faster than any season since 1992 – a span of 21 seasons. In 1992, Alan Exley's Jacks started the season 5-1 before it finished 9-10-1.

GRIFFIN FIRES TWO WINNERS

There has been a common denominator in the opening two weekend's victories – Braxton Griffin.

The junior striker has booted game-winning goals in all three of the HSU wins. Griffin continued his early run of opportunistic goal scoring with the third score against Saint Martin's and second goal versus Academy of Art last weekend.

For the first four matches, Griffin has four goals, one more than his 2013 season total.

MOST BACK-TO-BACK GOALS IN 13 SEASONS

For the first time in 13 seasons, HSU found the back of the net at least four times in back-to-back matches. With the four scores against William Jessup and Saint Martin's, the Jacks accomplished the task last in wins over Simpson (8-0) and Westminster (5-0) in the middle of the 2000 season.
