Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Shut Out by No. 8-Ranked Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif. – No. 8 UC San Diego defeated Humboldt State women's soccer 4-0 Sunday.

The loss drops HSU to 2-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. With the win UC San Diego improves to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in conference action.

HSU was not able to capitalize on numerous early chances in the first half, forcing a scoreless tie at the half.

"The stats don't show it clearly, but we let that one slip away when we didn't finish the three clear chances in the first half," said head coach Paul Karver.

The Tritons wasted little time in the second half and took a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute on a goal by Jamie Benedetto. Kiera Bocchino found the net for back-to-back goals in the 51st and 53rd minutes of the match giving the Tritons a 3-0 lead.

San Diego struck again in the 56th minute on a goal by Katie O'Laughlin, which served as the last score of the match.

"UCSD is a team that scores goals in bunches, and they did that in the second half – it's why they are No. 8 in the country," said Karver.

The Tritons outshot the Jacks 22-6 in the contest.

HSU returns home this week to take on Holy Names Friday in a non-conference match, before resuming conference play against San Francisco State (Friday Oct. 14) and Cal State Monterey Bay (Sunday, Oct. 16).

"It will be nice to have only one game next week so we can get healthy and prepare for the rest of conference," said Karver.
