CHICO, Calif. – Humboldt State women's soccer was on the wrong side of an early Chico State offensive outburst in Sunday afternoon's 5-1 road loss.
HSU falls to 4-11-1 overall and 2-7-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association competition, while the Wildcats improve to 8-7-2 overall and 4-7-1 in CCAA play.
Chico State outshot the Lumberjacks 17-8 in the match, and it also held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
"We were naïve this afternoon, and we paid for it," said head coach
Paul Karver.
The Wildcats opened the scoring when Lindsey Dias converted a penalty kick at 3:39. Chico State added another goal at 6:53 when Katie Brown scored thanks to assists from Shelby Lanksbury and Brooke Coelho.
A little less than 10 minutes into the match, Dias picked up her second goal of the match when she headed Brown's cross. The Wildcats then added another goal in the 26
th minute when Erin Woods headed in a goal off a corner kick from Katie Bozart.
The Jacks got on the board in the 46th minute when
Alex Jenkins scored on a header from six yards out off a long ball played into the box by
Madison Barnett. Chico State closed out the scoring in the 76th minute when Lanksbury scored on a quick counter attack with the assist going to Emily Shleppey.
Goalkeeper
Katelin Talbert had four saves for the Jacks, and she faced five shots on goal in the second half.
HSU will wrap up its regular season schedule when it hosts Cal State Los Angeles (Thursday, Oct. 27) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (Saturday, Oct. 29).
