ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona notched a double overtime goal to defeat Humboldt State women's soccer 2-1 Sunday at College Creek Field.
"Today was a tough loss that we will surely learn from," said HSU head coach
Paul Karver. "We had a great deal of momentum in the game. Three points out of a weekend always leaves you wanting more, but this is the CCAA, and in a conference like ours anytime we have points in a weekend it is successful."
Hailey James was responsible for the game-winning header off a block from Lumberjack goalkeeper
Alex Dumas. The goal came 4:49 into the second overtime period.
HSU played a majority of the first half on the offensive side. The Green and Gold tallied 12 of its 15 shots in the first 45 minutes.
Bridget Daley delivered the Jacks' lone goal 8:39 into the second half. She took a pass from
Jacquelyn Dompier, dribbled past a defender and fired the ball into the top corner of the goal beyond the outstretched arms of Pomona goalie Ricki Ives.
The equalizer came with less than 10 minutes in regulation. Sydney Yates passed to Daisey Duran in traffic, and she connected on the goal that tied the game 1-1.
Daley led the Green and Gold with five shots and three on goal.
Pomona outshot HSU 22-15, and the Broncos tallied 13 corner kicks.
