HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay defeated Humboldt State women's soccer 2-1 Sunday afternoon to close out the Lumberjacks first conference road trip.
The loss drops HSU to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
"Today is a tough pill to swallow. The girls really changed things in the second half and deserved a win," said head coach
Paul Karver. "The simple reality is that this team needs to be accountable as individuals and as a collective unit, but right now they are not willing to be. We need to grow up, and we need to do it fast – excuses aren't what this program is about."
East Bay outshot HSU 11-5 in the contest. The Jacks showed improvement outshooting the Pioneers 4-3 in the second half of the match.
Megan Ravenscroft gave the Pioneers (2-5-2, 1-3 CCAA) an early lead when she found the back of the net in the 35th minute.
HSU tied the game up in the 67th minute on a goal by
Valerie Perez assisted by
Niccole Mullins. It was Perez's first career goal.
The score remained tied at 1-1 until the end of regulation.
In the 99th minute, Ravenscroft dribbled past the goalie and found the back of the net from the bottom right of the box for the game-winning goal.
HSU will be back on the road next weekend when they take on Cal State San Marcos (Friday, Sept. 30) and UC San Diego (Sunday, Oct. 2).
