SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Despite trailing in the final minute of regulation, Humboldt State women's soccer found a way to add a late goal and earn a double-overtime draw. In the 89th minute,
Bridget Daley headed in a cross from
Alex Jenkins to tie the game and, ultimately, earn the Lumberjacks a much-needed point in the 1-1 draw.
"We had to reinvent ourselves in the second half," said head coach
Paul Karver. "And to get a goal with seven seconds left is a true testament to the belief and trust these girls have. This game was never pretty because of the contrasting styles, and earning a draw on the road feels like a win."
The result moves HSU to 2-7-1 overall and 1-3-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Cal State San Marcos moves to 3-1-4 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.
The Cougars lone goal came in the 23rd minute when Meghan Randig put home a rebound after Kayla Anderson's shot hit the post.
HSU was able to earn the draw despite being outshot 14-7 by San Marcos.
The Jacks will have another test when they take on No. 8-ranked UC San Diego Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
"We couldn't be more proud of this group today, but when tomorrow's alarm goes off we need to get ready for UCSD," said Karver.
