Humboldt faced off with Western Washington in the first round, finishing 7 seconds behind the Vikings. Humboldt had two entries in this event, and both boats qualified for the Grand Finals. "We had hoped to be closer to Western Washington in this first face off. Western looked solid said Head Coach
Robin Meiggs. "We led for 800 meters, but as our stroke increased, Western Washington lengthened out, and walked right through us. We did not respond to their move and they beat us convincingly. We were pleased that both of our Varsity 8+ boats progressed to the Grand Finals. Our 2V8+ raced up today and completed a goal they felt they were capable of achieving. "
The women's Division II/III/Club Novice 8+ also progressed to the Grand Finals.

Coach Meiggs "We felt like the novice had a good race today. They were not able to follow the race plan where rates were concerned, but we feel like that will not be an issue tomorrow. We will race many of these schools at again at Championships, so it gives us an idea of what the field will be like. We did have to make a last-minute substitution due to an injury in another boat, so we fell off of our paces with Orange Coast. Tomorrow should be a good day of racing for all boats"
