ARCATA, Calif. –
The Humboldt State men's soccer team will hit the road to begin the 2017 campaign, taking part in the four-team Cavalier Classic at Tuominen Yard in Portland. The Jacks open against host Concordia University Thursday at 5 p.m.

Saturday's matchup will feature HSU and Saint Martin's at 4 p.m.

"It's a big weekend starting for us, because we want to do something this team has never done before and make the playoffs," said senior captain Cameron Spencer. "Everyone is excited, and we are eager to make our last season the best one we've had."

Entering his fifth season, Head Coach Fred Jungemann is excited to kick off the season against West Region opposition.

"We're very optimistic about this weekend, and we are looking forward to starting a new year," said HSU Head Coach Fred Jungemann. "Everybody is on the same page and committed to moving things forward. We have some depth up front this year and some guys who can do different things for us. Our hope is to give different looks for our opponents and hopefully it will be successful."

The Cavalier Classic features four teams: Saint Martin's, Concordia, San Francisco State and HSU. The Cavaliers compiled a 4-10-3 mark last season, while the Saints went 3-13-1 overall.
