ARCATA, Calif.--- Humboldt State's men's soccer team will have their home opener this Wednesday, September 25, when the Lumberjacks face San Francisco State at 3pm at College Creek Field. This will also be the Lumberjacks' California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener. After Wednesday's match, HSU will travel to Rohnert Park, Calif., to face Sonoma State at 1:30pm.
RECAP OF HSU'S LAST MATCH: Humboldt State won its second consecutive 5-1 match this past Sunday afternoon in Redding, Calif. This time the Lumberjacks defeated Simpson University behind
Israel Gonzalez's two goals. Also scoring goals for the 'Jacks were
Devin Hauenstein,
Jacob Hoffman and
Ethan Waters. Four Lumberjacks recorded assists on four of HSU's five goals in
Marco Silveira, Nicholas Falco, Jordan Bruton and
Angel Rodriguez.
Robert Quintero had two saves in goal for HSU. The Lumberjacks dominated the RedHawks holding a 29-10 advantage in shot attempts including a 15-3 shot on goal advantage.
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS: With their 5-1 win at Simpson on Sunday afternoon, Humboldt State improved to 4-1. The Lumberjacks are led by
Isaiah Dairo's four goals while he has one assist.
Marco Silveira has a team leading five assists to go with his two goals. Dairo and Silveira are tied for the team lead in scoring each with nine points.
Israel Gonzalez is second on the team with his three goals followed by
Gus Baxter,
Ethan Waters,
Dalton Rice,
Devin Hauenstein and Silveira each with two. Rice and Hauenstein each are tied for second on the team with their two assists.
Robert Quintero has posted a 1.80 goals against average. He also has a .750 saves percentage with 24 saves and one shutout. As a team, the Lumberjacks are averaging 3.60 goals a game while giving up 1.60 goals a game.
NATIONALLY RANKED: Three Lumberjacks are ranked nationally in the NCAA Division II statistical report.
Marco Silveira is third with five assists and second with his 1.00 assists per game average.

GATORS IN REVIEW: San Francisco State is 3-1 after defeating UC Santa Cruz 1-0 in overtime on Sunday afternoon. That was the Gators' third straight win after starting the season with a 2-1 loss at Notre Dame de Namur in their season opener. SF State is averaging 1.67 goals a game while giving up 1.00 goals a game. Ramiro Palencia leads the team with his two goals and one assist for a team leading five points. Three others players have scored goals in Adrian Medina, Seiya Otsuka and Jonathan Orozco. Gustav Fink leads SF State with his two assists. Peter Swinkels has a 0.71 goals against average with 15 saves, two shutouts and a .833 saves percentage.
The all-time series is at 7-7-4 with the two teams tying 1-1 in Arcata last season. Humboldt State defeated the Gators 2-1 on October 14, 2016, also in Arcata.
