Lumberjacks Look to Extend Winning Streak to Five

Ramiro Rosas and his HSU Teammates will host Simpson this Friday at 3pm
ARCATA, Calif---  Humboldt State went 2-0 for the second week in a row and will look to extend that winning streak to five this Friday, September 17 when they host Simpson University at 3pm.  This will be the Lumberjacks' home opener of the 2021 season and will be the beginning of a four-match homestand for the 'Jacks.
 
COACHING STAFF:  Coach Fred Jungemann is in his ninth year on the sideline for the Lumberjacks.  This year, Coach Jungemann's assistants are three former Lumberjacks in Frankie Calderon, Phil Rouse and Isaiah Dairo who will begin their first year on the Lumberjack coaching staff. 
 
RECAP OF EAST BAY:  For the second weekend in a row, the Lumberjacks recorded back to back shutouts in their 2-0 weekend.  This past Friday evening, HSU blanked Hawaii Pacific keyed by Dylan Tovani's first goal of the season in the 19th minute off of assists from Daniel Adeyeye and Devin Hauenstein.  Also scoring goals for the 'Jacks were Hauenstein, Edgar Castaneda and Alejandro Lopez.  Adding assists on HSU's final three goals were Marco Silveira (2), Nicolas Herrera Land, Adeyeye and Castaneda. Humboldt State won its fourth straight with a 3-0 win over Holy Names on Sunday afternoon.  Lopez connected on the game-winner in the 51st minute off a ball form Silveira.  HSU added two goals in the final two minutes to make the final 3-0.  Humboldt State's second goals came in the 89thminute from Silveira off a double assist from Adrian Gallardo and Adeyeye.  Yushi Kato scored HSU's final goal with fifteen seconds left on an assist from Silveira.  Gallardo had two saves in goal for HSU for his fourth straight shutout. 
 
LEADERSMarco Silveira leads HSU with his 12 points on his team high six assists to go with his three goals. He is tied with Alejandro Lopez with the team lead in goals each with three.  Lopez leads the 'Jacks with his two game-winning goals while Dylan Tovani and Silveira each have one.  Tovani has scored two goals this season for the 'Jacks while Daniel Adeyeye has three assists and Nicolas Herrera Land has two.  Adrian Gallardo has posted a 0.00 goals against average with 11 saves and a 1.000 saves percentage and four shutouts.
 
CCAA/NATIONAL:  Six Lumberjacks are in the CCAA in eight statistical categories.  Marco Silveira is first in points (13), assists (six) and tied for second in goals scored (three). Alejandro Lopez is first in game-winning goals (two), tied for second in goals (three) and tied for fourth in points (seven).  Daniel Adeyeye is tied for second in assists (three) and tied for sixth in points (five).  Dylan Tovani is tied for fifth in goals (two) while Nicolas Herrera Land is tied for fifth in assists (two).  Adrian Gallardo is first in the CCAA in goals against average (0.00), saves percentage (1.000), shutouts (four) and saves per game (2.75).
 
Nationally as a team in NCAA Division II, HSU is first in assists per game (four per game), shutouts (four), goals against average (0.000) and tied for first in saves percentage (1.000).  The 'Jacks are third in total points (42), fourth in total goals (13) and 11th goals per game (3.25).  Indvidually, Marco Silviera is tied for first in total assists (six), second in assists per game (1.50/game), second in points (12) and seventh in points per game (3.00/game).  Lopez is tied for first in game-winning goals (two) and Daniel Adeyeye is ninth in total assists (three).  Adrian Gallardo leads the nation in goals against average (0.00), saves percentage (1.000) and shutouts (four).
 
NOW AT FOUR:  Humboldt State ran its consecutive shutout streak to four with its two shutout wins over the weekend.  This is the first time since 1989 that this has happened in HSU men's soccer history.  HSU's longest winning streak was six in 2017. 
 
MOVING CLOSERMarco Silveira is two assists from moving past Billy Hansen into second place on HSU's all-time assist list.  Kevin Wiese holds the career record with 30.  Silveira has 20 assists during his career to go with his 11 goals in the Green and Gold.

SIMPSON REDHAWKS:  Simpson is 1-2 after defeating Bushnell 3-0 this past weekend.  The RedHawks are led by Jesus Rodriguez with one goal and an assist.  Also scoring goals for Simpson are Joseph Bell and Ruben Barajas.  Recording assists for SU are Diego Alvarez and Jaime Guterrez Velasco.  Daniel Morales has a 1.69 goals against average with six saves, one shutout and a .667 saves percentage.  HSU leads the all-time series with Simpson 4-0 including the 'Jacks winning 5-1 in 2019 in Redding.  The 'Jacks last won in Arcata in 2006, a 3-0 victory.

UP NEXT: Humboldt State will continue its four-match homestand on Saturday, September 25 at 12:30pm in a rare non-conference match at College Creek Field.
