ARCATA, Calif--- Humboldt State's volleyball team will begin its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season with a pair of matches in Southern California. The Lumberjacks will begin CCAA action with a 4pm starting match this Friday, September 17 in Los Angeles against Cal State Los Angeles. They will finish off their weekend at noon on Saturday, September 18 with a match in Carson against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Paul Castillo who is in his third season on Coach Wood's staff.
RECAP OF THE SEAWOLF/GATOR CLASSIC: Humboldt State went 2-2 to begin its 2021 season at the Seawolf/Gator Classic in Rohnert Park. The Lumberjacks begin their season with a four-set loss to Chico State on Friday morning.
Lenox Loving had 10 kills while
Riley Tishlarich added 18 assists and
Carla Crespo recorded 13 digs for the 'Jacks. HSU came back with a four-set win over Dominican that evening behind Loving's first of three straight double double performances with 16 kills and 15 digs. Crespo had 25 digs and five service aces while
Hannah Cantrell recorded three total blocks. Tishlarich and
Riley White each had 23 assists for HSU.
The next morning, HSU lost in four sets to Holy Names despite Loving's 14 kills and 18 digs. Crespo had 21 digs while Tishlarich added 25 assists. The 'Jacks finished the classic with a four-set win over Academy of Art as Loving had 23 kills, 13 digs and hit for .512. White had four service aces while McLaughlin recorded four service aces and Crespo added 16 digs for HSU. Tishlarich paced HSU with her 30 assists.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Lenox Loving finished her weekend with three consecutive double doubles with double digit performances in kills and digs. Against Dominican, she had 16 kills and 15 digs. She followed that on Saturday morning with 14 kills and 18 digs. The outside hitter finished her weekend with 23 kills and 13 digs. She hit .512 in the Lumberjacks' four-set win over Academy of Art.
TEAM LEADERS: Lenox Loving with her 3.69 kills/set average while
Lindsey McLaughlin has hit a team leading .435.
Riley Tishlarich leads HSU with her 6.40 assists/set average followed by
Riley White's 4.56 assists/set average.
Carla Crespo has a team leading 10 service aces and is recording a team high 4.69 digs/set.
Hannah Cantrell leads HSU with her 16 total blocks followed by McLaughlin with 14.

Lenox Loving is seventh in kills/set and tenth in points/set.

CAL STATE LOS ANGELES: The Golden Eagles are 5-3 after going 4-0 in the Nanook Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska, this past weekend. They are currently receiving votes nationally in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches (AVCA)/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. Emily Elliott leads the way for CSULA with her 134 kills and 17 total blocks while Karla Santos has 127 kills, 125 digs and 10 service aces. Jaden Grova has 173 assists followed by Eliza Cannon's 171 assists.
Cal State Los Angeles leads the all-times series with the 'Jacks 21-3 with the Golden Eagles winning the last meeting in three in Los Angeles in 2019. HSU last won in 2015, a four-set win in Arcata. The 'Jacks last won in Los Angeles, a five-set win in 2014.
CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS: The Toros are 0-6 after going 0-3 in their play in the SoCal Freeway Challenge. They are led by Nicole Perry's 73 kills and Gabbie Silvas' 88 digs. Bailey Fuches has a team leading 125 assists and Jenna Sandall leads CSUDH with her 10 service aces. Jessi Diekman has recorde a team leading 16 blocks.
Humboldt State leads the all-time series with the Toros 21-13, but CSUDH has won the last seven straight matches. HSU last won in 2015, a five-set win in Arcata. The 'Jacks last won in Carson in 2014 a three-set victory.
HOME OPENER: HSU's home opener will be on September 24 at 5pm against Stanislaus State. This will be the beginning of a four-match home stand for the 'Jacks.
