Balanced Scoring Attack Keys No. 6 ‘Yotes Win Over the ‘Jacks

ARCATA, Calif---  The sixth ranked Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes (12-1, 6-1 CCAA) had three of their five starters score in double digits to lead the 'Yotes to an 81-62 victory over the Humboldt State Lumberjacks this evening in a CCAA game in Lumberjack Arena.  Bryce Mitchell paced the 'Jacks with 14 points while AJ Sims added 10 points off the bench.

FIRST HALF: The visitors jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game.  A Jaden Edwards' jumper off a pass from Cam Timmons capped a 7-2 run by the 'Jacks as they cut the deficit to 8-7.  Cal State San Bernardino came right back and increased its lead to 17-8 on a three by Brandon Knapper. Humboldt State (8-5, 2-5 CCAA) outscored its guests 8-4 in the next five minutes
to cut the deficit to 21-16.

The 'Yotes increased its lead to 29-18 on an old-fashioned three-point play by Darius Lubom.  Humboldt State kept battling as an Amari Green lay-up cut the 'Yotes' lead to 29-23 with six minutes left in the half.  Two free throws by Timmy Falls capped a 13-5 run by the 'Yotes as they took a 42-28 lead late in the half.  A free throw by Timmons cut the CSUSB lead to 42-29 heading into the locker room.

SECOND HALF:  A Darius Mickens' jumper gave the 'Yotes a 57-40 lead with eight minutes into the second half.  The visitors increased their lead to 63-42 on a dunk by Daytone Jennings mid-way through the second half.  A lay-up by Thomas Melonja cut the 'Jacks deficit to 67-53 with seven minutes left in regulation, but that is closest HSU would get as the 'Yotes took the 81-62 victory.

UP NEXT:  HSU continues its two-game home stand on Saturday, January 15 at 7:30pm when the 'Jacks host Cal Poly Pomona.  The Broncos lost 91-85 in overtime at Sonoma State this evening.
