Jacks Blank Pioneers in Hayward, Earn First Road Victory

HAYWARD, Calif.--- Erin Mohr netted her second goal of the week as the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks secured a crucial 1-0 victory over the Cal State East Bay Pioneers on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium. Carson Thomson-Terrel recorded four saves while Emma McChristie, Emilie Wallin, Rhea Chan, Jysabella Tolentino, Kylea Becker, Morgan Young and Carmella Baldassarre all had shot attempts for the Jacks. The win also gave head coach Grant Landy his 398th career victory, inching him closer to the 400 win mark.

East Bay kicked things off with a shot attempt by Jenna Villanueva and a corner kick just a bit over five minutes into the match. The Jacks would respond just a few minutes later behind a shot by Wallin that would miss right. It wasn't until the last minute of the half that the Jacks saw a breakthrough, as Mohr connected on her second goal of the week to give the squad a 1-0 advantage heading into the half.

The second half started off with a shot attempt by East Bay's Morgan Pearson at 45:59, followed by back-to-back corner kicks by the Pioneers and Jacks at 46:09 and 47:21. Yvette Moreno had an attempt in the 50th minute that was aimed in the top right corner, but Thomson-Terrel saved it to keep the Pioneers out of the score column. Thomson-Terrel would record another save in the 74th minute to earn her and the team's sixth shutout of the season, as the Jacks secured a 1-0 victory.

Statistically, Humboldt outshot Eastbay 13-9, with both teams having four shots on goal. East Bay held an advantage on corner kicks, 4-1.

This afternoon's win keeps the Lumberjacks squarely in the hunt for a CCAA playoff spot. The team currently sits in the sixth and final playoff position with five more games left in the regular season. Three of those games will be played in the friendly reaches of College Creek Field.

Humboldt (5-3-4, 2-1-3 CCAA) will have its final roadtrip of the season this upcoming week, when the team travels to play Cal State San Bernardino (6-4-2, 2-2-2 CCAA) on Friday, Oct. 14 at 12:30pm and Cal State San Marcos (5-5-3, 3-2-1 CCAA) on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 11:30am.
